Dr. Rahul Walawalkar
Founder & President, WE LLP | Founder & President, NETRARahul founded Walawalkar Enterprise LLP in 2024 to bring 25 years of energy sector experience — spanning policy, investment, technology commercialization, and institution-building — into focused strategic advisory for companies, investors, and governments navigating the clean energy transition.
Before WE LLP, Rahul founded the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) in 2012 and led it for 13 years, growing it into India's most influential industry platform for energy storage and e-mobility with 400+ members across 15+ countries. Through IESA and his earlier role at Customized Energy Solutions (CES), he advised 200+ companies, mentored 50+ startups, and catalyzed over $3 billion in clean energy investments. The Chairman of India's Central Electricity Authority has called him the “Energy Storage Man of India.”
Rahul has shaped energy policy across governments and international agencies. He serves on advisory committees of CERC, NITI Aayog, and MNRE. He has contributed to the US Department of Energy's storage peer review program, served on the executive committee of the International Solar Alliance, and acted as Lead Advisor for the World Bank's Energy Storage Partnership. He managed the secretariat of the US-India Joint Energy Storage Taskforce (2023–2025) and served on the Board of Directors of the US Energy Storage Association (2009–2015).
In 2025, Rahul launched the NetZero Energy Transition Association (NETRA), a global 501(c)(6) alliance accelerating deployment of net-zero technologies, with 9 member-led councils and partners including EARTHDAY.ORG and the International Solar Alliance.
His recognitions include the IEEE Narain Hingorani Award for Excellence in Energy Storage Systems (2025), EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 Finalist, the Brad Roberts Award (US ESA), and the IPPAI Outstanding Achievement in Energy Storage Award (2024). He has authored six book chapters — including for McGraw-Hill and Cambridge University Press — and delivered 100+ keynotes at international forums.
Rahul holds a PhD in Engineering & Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, an MS in Energy Management from NYIT, and a BE from Walchand College of Engineering. He is an IEEE Senior Member and an active angel investor in 13 companies across India and the US.
Netra Walawalkar
Managing Partner, WE LLP | Co-Founder, VP & Treasurer, NETRANetra co-founded Walawalkar Enterprise LLP to bring 20 years of cross-sectoral experience in energy markets, clean technology, and sustainability into advisory work that connects C&I enterprises with practical, implementable clean energy strategies.
Netra has worked extensively with commercial and industrial clients — including MNCs, data centers, and manufacturing firms — on renewable energy procurement, sustainability roadmaps, and energy cost optimization. She collaborates closely with clean-tech companies and renewable energy providers to design energy strategies that align with both business objectives and decarbonization targets.
She is Co-Founder, VP & Treasurer of the NetZero Energy Transition Association (NETRA), a global 501(c)(6) alliance launched in 2025, where she leads the demand creation efforts across grid, mobility and C&I decarbonization. She also leads the Women in NetZero (WiN with NETRA) initiative — a platform dedicated to advancing women's leadership across the clean energy ecosystem. Previously, she co-founded the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) and served as VP at Customized Energy Solutions India, where she contributed to building India's energy storage and e-mobility ecosystem over more than a decade.
Netra is an active angel investor in startups focused on healthcare, mental wellness, and social impact — investing in ventures serving the base-of-the-pyramid segment. She is a Partner at Social Venture Partners (SVP) India, Pune chapter, supporting social enterprises through strategic mentorship and venture philanthropy. Her contributions have been recognized with the MIT ADT University Women's Achievement Award (2024).
Previously as co-founder and VP of Customized Energy Solutions (India), she built the energy trading practice with focus on IEX participation and bilateral contracts. She has led C&I energy strategy engagements for clients in manufacturing, IT, data centers & pharmaceuticals, delivering energy cost reductions of 20+% through renewable procurement and demand-side management.
Netra holds an MBA from Drexel University, USA, and a BE in Electronics Engineering from Mumbai University, India.
